CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — After over a month away from the competition pool, the UNI
swimming and diving team will return to the water this weekend as its head to Ames to take on the Cyclones in dual action.
Competition is slated to begin on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT at Beyer Hall in Ames with live results available on Meet Mobile (swimming) and Dive Meets (diving).
Saturday's dual will be only the Panthers' second of the season after facing Iowa in their season opener back in November at home. Northern Iowa's last outing at the Hawkeye Invitational saw the Panthers break three school records and one Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) record in late November.Â
Faith Larsen broke her own school record in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.48 seconds, dropping 0.02 seconds off her top time set in 2023. Abby Lear, Larsen, Morgan Meyer and Waren Graeve placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a new school and MVC record time of 1:30.71. Meyer also recorded a broken record for Northern Iowa at that meet by placing seventh in the finals for the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.28. Olivia Chambers also notably set a new Para American record in the S13 classification with a time of 4:57.04 at the Hawkeye Invitational.
In the diving well, Trista Thompson was the UNI's top finisher in the one-meter springboard prelims at the Hawkeye Invitational in 25th place (236.35), followed by Erica Peters in 30th (227.10) and Natalie Devoll in 36th (213.75). On the three-meter boards, Erica Peters was the lone diver to qualify for finals and placed 22nd with a score of 248.70.Â
Iowa State bested Northern Iowa in its last meeting in Cedar Falls last January on Senior Day by a score of 162-138. UNI will be in search of its first-ever victory in a dual against the Cyclones this weekend.
