CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI swimming and diving will have one last tuneup opportunity before the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships beginning this weekend as the Panthers head west for their final meets of the 2023-24 regular season.
Northern Iowa swimmers will return to the Midco Aquatic Center for the second time this year for the Coyote Invitational, hosted by the University of South Dakota, while Panther divers will head to eastern Nebraska for the Omaha Diving Invite.
UNI returns to action after falling short in its final dual of the year in a 198-155 loss at Illinois State two weeks ago. Despite coming up short, the Panthers put up impressive performances, which included a pair of first-place finishes by Olivia Chambers, who was named the MVC Swimmer of the Week after winning both the 400-yard individual medley and 1,000-yard freestyle. Amber Finke also found success in Illinois, where she clinched the first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a 56.31, and then notched a second win in the 200-yard backstroke after an impressive 2:01.34. Reigning MVC 50-yard freestyle champion Faith Larsen took home a win in the 50-yard free, after posting a 24.07 final time.
In the diving well, Erica Peters, Avery Hogan and Trista Thompson have all cracked UNI's top-ten all-time list in the one-meter springboards, while Hogan and Peters hold spots in the top-six in program history on the three-meter boards. Thompson has secured an NCAA Zones cut in the one-meter competition after a 267.80 score at the Panther Diving Invite in December.
UNI crowned seven champions at the Coyote Invite a year ago, which included 200-yard butterfly champion Scout Bergwall. For the Omaha Diving, Maddie Moran returns for the Panthers after a fourth-place finish in the one-meter dive competition last season, while Hannah Taylor returns to the H&K Pool after placing fourth on the three-meter boards last February.
