CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ---Â UNI swim and dive seniors will compete in the Glen F. Henry Pool for the final time on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers host the Iowa State Cyclones in their final home dual meet of the season.Â
The Panthers will attempt to knock off the Cyclones in the pool for the first time since January 1992, looking to snap a 28 dual skid to the cardinal and gold. In its prior meet against Iowa State, UNI came up short on the road in Ames at the Beyer Pool by a score of 213.5-85.5.
Prior to the start of the meet, UNI will honor its senior class of student-athletes, including Scout Bergwall, Clare Christensen, Amber Finke, Sydney Hall and Taylor Short. The Panthers will also honor former teammate Lily Ernst, who passed away in July 2022.
Returning to the pool for the first time since mid-November, the Panthers look to build off a strong showing at the West Virginia Invitational prior to the holiday break. In Morgantown, Finke broke two school records in the 100-yard backstroke (53.73) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.25). Finke also contributed to a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay, joining forces with Faith Larsen, Abby Lear, and Morgan Meyer for a time of 1:31.35. Larsen enters this weekend's meet this weekend holding the fastest 50-yard freestyle time in the Missouri Valley Conference of 22.42 second after her first place finish in West Virginia.Â
Additionally over the holiday break, Olivia Chambers and Cali Prochaska competed in the U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Championships, where Chambers earned a bronze medal in the multi-class 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:33.19. Chambers also set a new world record in the S13 1,500-meter freestyle in 17:53.84. Prochaska took home a fourth-place finish in the S9 1,500-meter freestyle (21:06.20) and a fifth place finish in the S9 100-meter butterfly (1:16.13).
In the diving well, Northern Iowa showed out at the Panther Diving Invitational a month ago. Trista Thompson locked up an NCAA Zones cut in the one-meter springboard with a score of 267.80 to crack UNI's top-ten all-time list, while Erica Peters placed first in the three-meter competition (247.90).
