UNI cross country: Panthers compete at Gans Creek Classic to open double header weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Wrapping up the first meet of a double duty weekend, Caleb Shumaker and Emma Hoins led the Panther pack as UNI cross country competed at the Gans Creek Classic on Friday morning, hosted by the University of Missouri.
The UNI men finished in 13th place competing in the 8K race in a 20-team field with a total of 325 points, while the women marked 12th place running the 6K course with a total of 310 points. The women's team-field consisted of 23 teams competing on the course. Illinois State took the title on the men's side, as Nebraska came out on top for the women.
On the men's side, Caleb Shumaker crossed the finish line first for the Panthers in a time of 25:09 to finish in 44th place. Tyler Colvin (25:16) and Carson Owens (25:23) came in 48th and 54th on the 8K course, while freshman Chase Lauman finished in 86th place in a time of 25:52.
Emma Hoins finished in the top-40 in Columbia with a time of 22:06. to take home 39th place, cutting four seconds off her previous 6K time. Kate Crawford (22:15) and Ella Popenhagen (22:35.6) came in 46th and 65th place respectively for the Panthers, while Eden Mueller ran a time of 22:41 to take 74th place.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will have select runners competing on Saturday at Wartburg's Dan Huston Invite in Waverly. Competition begins at 10 a.m. CT at the Max Cross Country Course.
