Panther cross country heads into doubleheader weekend at Missouri, Wartburg

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Running into a busy weekend of competition, UNI cross country will pull double duty this weekend, competing at Missouri's Gans Creek Classic on Friday morning in Columbia, as well as Wartburg's Dan Huston Invite on Saturday morning in Waverly.
ÂSelect runners competing at Missouri will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the men's 8K, followed by the women's 6K at 9:45 a.m. CT. Up in Waverly on Saturday, competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT at the Max Cross Country Club.
ÂWith just two meets remaining following this weekend's action, the Panthers look to continue to build endurance following a solid team performance at the Redbird Invite on Sept. 15. The Panther women finished in third place in Normal, while the men took home seventh place.
ÂEmma Hoins finished in seventh place at the Redbird Invite in the 6K race with a time of 22:10, with Kate Crawford placing eighth (22:14). Caleb Shumaker paced the Panther men in the 8K at the Weibring Golf Course with an 11th place finish in (24:58), while Carson Owens took 30th (25:28).
ÂUNI took 12th place out of 24 teams on the women's side at the Gans Creek Classic in 2022, with the men finishing in 17th. Crawford led the Panthers on the course in 59th place in 21:44, while Hoins finished close behind in 72nd place (21:53). In the men's 8K, Brady Griebel and Shumaker led the way with times of 25:25 and 25:27 respectively.
