UNI cross country: Ten earn top-25 finishes at Redbird Invite

NORMAL, Ill. — Emma Hoins and Caleb Shumaker led the Panther field as UNI cross country competed at the Redbird Invite on Friday afternoon at the Weibring Golf Club, hosted by Illinois State University.
The UNI women finished in third place in the six-kilometer race in a 12-team field with a total of 81 points, while the men took seventh place competing in the 8K with 159 points. Illinois State claimed both the men's and women's team titles.
For a second consecutive meet, Emma Hoins led the Panther pack with a seventh place finish in 22:10. Kate Crawford finished close behind with an eighth place finish running a time of 22:14. Ella Popenhagen, Eden Mueller, and Sophia Jungling all placed top-25 on the course with Popenhagen finishing in 21st place (22:44.3), Mueller in 23rd (22:47.5) and Jungling marking a 25th place finish in a time of 22:54.8. Freshman Kaylee Woolery placed 39th in a time of 23:26.5 for the Panthers.
On the men's side, Caleb Shumaker led UNI with an eleventh place finish in a time of 24:58 on the 8K course. Carson Owens (25:28.4) and Tyler Colvin (25:52.3) came in 30th and 43rd for the Panthers respectively, while Brady Griebel placed 46th in a time of 26:03. Freshman runners Chase Lauman (26:05.5) and Josh Gormley (26:59.9) finished in 48th and 71st.
