UNI earns recognition for a sixth straight season. Two Panthers honored with individual Scholar All-American honors.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- For a sixth straight season, the UNI women's swimming and diving team has been honored as one of College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams.
The Panthers posted a 3.44 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) during the 2022-23 season en route to a program record 12 dual meet wins and a fourth place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships. Seven members of the UNI team also earn MVC Scholar-Athlete Team recognition.
"We're thrilled to be honored at both the team and individual level by the CSCAA for our academic success this past season," said UNI head swimming coach Nick Lakin. "In a record breaking season, our student-athletes continued to excel in both the pool and in the classroom, continuing to set the standard for our program."
Additionally, swimmer Faith Larsen and diver Taylor Hogan received individual recognition as individual Scholar All-Americans.
Larsen, an Eden Prairie, Minnesota native and College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honoree, earned First Team All-MVC honors and Scholar-Athlete recognition after claiming the MVC title in the 50-yard freestyle with a school record time of 22.50 seconds. The political science major also placed third at the conference championships in the 100-yard freestyle (50.31), ending the season ranked in the top-ten all-time in four events in school history (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard freestyle relay).
Hogan, a native of Waterloo, Iowa and another MVC Scholar-Athlete and CSC Academic All-District selection, closed out her UNI career by qualifying for the NCAA Diving Zones in the one-meter competition, placing 46th with a score of 176.55. A two-sport athlete in both diving and softball who majored in communication sciences and disorders, Hogan concluded her collegiate career ranked second all-time in scoring on the three-meter boards and sixth on the one-meter.
