UNI swim and dive heads to Vermillion for the Coyote Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI swimming and diving team will head to Vermillion, South Dakota this Friday and Saturday to compete in the Coyote Invitational at the USD Natatorium, the Panthers' final meet for swimmers this season ahead of next month's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships.
Competition is set to begin Friday night, with finals starting at 6 p.m. CT and Saturday morning beginning with prelims at 10 a.m. CT and finals starting at 4 p.m. CT. Live results can be found on Meet Mobile (swimming) and Dive Meets (diving).
Teams expected to be in attendance for competition include Augustana, Iowa Central, Nebraska-Kearney, Northern State, Omaha, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and South Dakota State.
UNI is coming off a victorious effort in their final dual meet of the season last weekend against the Illinois State Redbirds in Normal, securing a 202-151 win.
Northern Iowa took home top prize in ten events, including sophomore Sam Oeltjen posting a winning time of 4:31.97 in the 400-yard individual medley. Morgan Meyer saw success in the 200-yard freestyle, taking top-prize with a time of 1:51.18, as Abby Lear topped the podium in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.45, tying the Horton Pool record.
Aspen Cole showed off her speed in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a winning time of 1:04.25, her first collegiate victory in the event, while Abigail Barkhurst swam a 10:38.98 in the 1,000-yard freestyle to take first. Closing out the first night of competition was the 200-yard freestyle relay that saw Charlotte Sander, Meyer, Averie Bilskemper, and Lear take first in the event with a winning time of 1:32.99.
Elyse Brayton, Neriah Giedrys, Nikki Walters, and Lear started day two of competition strong, tallying a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:43.90. Morgan Raether topped the podium in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:01.19, as Meyer showed out in the 100-yard freestyle, taking first place with a time of 51.44. Natalie Harris found herself at the top in the 200-yard individual medley, swimming a time of 2:07.13 to close out the weekend.
Over in the diving well, Avery Hogan took first in the three-meter with a score of 262.65, with Erica Peters following closely behind in second at 252.08. Addison Bausman, Trista Thompson, and Eva Coonrad placed fifth, sixth, and seventh with scores of 236.48, 218.78, and 217.43. The Panthers saw a podium sweep in the one-meter with Peters, Thompson, and Hogan topping it with scores of 258.23, 251.10, and 243.90. Bausman finished in fifth (227.85) and Coonrad shortly behind in seventh (192.90).
