Panthers to send three athletes in four events to next month's national championships in Austin, Texas.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- UNI's Isaiah Trousil secured his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night as the Panther sprinter put on an impressive show in his final races of the NCAA West Regionals at Hornet Stadium.
After taking fifth place overall in Wednesday's 100-meter dash first round heats with a time of 10.27 seconds, Trousil clocked a 10.11 second sprint in the third and final heat to take seventh place overall. By finishing in the top-12 overall, Trousil becomes the first Panther to make the NCAA Championships in the 100 meters since Brandon Carnes in 2017.
The West Burlington, Iowa native also looked to punch his ticket in the 200-meter dash after taking tenth place in Wednesday's prelims. Holding the second fastest time in program history in the event, Trousil, who won the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) outdoor titles in both the 100 and 200 meters, recorded a time of 20.09 seconds with a 2.3 wind speed at his back to clinch fourth place and advance to the national championship meet.
UNI's men's 4x100-meter relay of Tinashe Chigudu, Luke Meyers, Trousil and Deonte Dean also got the chance to compete for a trip to nationals, clocking a time of 39.69 seconds to finish in 21st place. The group's time, the second-fastest by a Panther team this season, was just 0.07 seconds off of its school record set at this year's MVC Championships.
In the high jump pits, Carter Morton, the most valuable athlete of the MVC Championships, competed in the high jump. The Jefferson, Iowa native cleared 1.99 meters on his first attempt as well as 2.04 and 2.09 meters on his second jump at each height, but came up short of clearing 2.14 meters, finishing his season in a tie for 26th place.
