MISSION VIEJO, Calif. --- UNI swimmer Faith Larsen set three new lifetime-best times as she competed at the TYR Pro Swim Series event in southern California over the weekend.
Larsen, a Eden Prairie, Minnesota native who earned First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) honors this past season by clinching the 50-yard freestyle title, swam three long course (50-meter) events over a three-day span, seeking qualifying times for the Phillips 66 National Championships later this summer.
Larsen began the weekend with a pair of lifetime-best swims in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.09 seconds, as well as a 31.99-second mark in the preliminary heats of the 50-meter backstroke. Friday's session included Larsen competing in the 50-meter butterfly prelims, where she clocked a time of 28.66 seconds.
Saturday's 50-meter freestyle saw the UNI rising sophomore qualify for the B-final after matching her career-best time of 26.25 seconds. Competing in a field that included Olympians Abbey Weitzeil and Simone Manuel, as well as world junior champion Claire Curzan, Larsen recorded a new career-best time in Saturday night's final with a time of 26.11 seconds to finish in 14th place overall, narrowly missing the 25.99-second time standard to qualify for the national championships.
