
Morton, Hanson notch new career-bests at Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. — UNI track and field wrapped up an active four-meet weekend late Saturday night as Panthers Carter Morton and Drake Hanson competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational on the Azusa Pacific University campus.
Morton, the Most Valuable Athlete from February's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Indoor Championships, competed in his first decathlon of the outdoor season beginning on Thursday at Cougar Athletic Stadium. The Panther junior recorded career-best marks in three of the decathlon's ten events, including the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.05 seconds, the discus with a toss of 33.67 meters and the javelin, recording a throw of 53.28 meters. Morton also topped Group A in the high jump with a leap of 2.01 meters. Finishing in sixth place in Group A, Morton finished the multi-event competition with a career-best 7,210 points, surpassing his previous high-water mark by 238 points and passing 7,000 points for the first time in his career.
On the track, Hanson represented the purple and gold in two distance events on Friday and Saturday, beginning with the 800-meter run on Friday with a time of 1:50.20 to finish in 52nd place. Hanson followed his Friday race up late on Saturday night in the 1,500-meter run, clocking a career-best mark 3:53.24 to finish in 132nd place in the 190-man field.
