
UNI swim & dive finishes fourth at 2023 MVC Championships

Panthers secure their best finish since 2019.
IOWA CITY, Iowa --- UNI swimming & diving secured its best finish at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships since 2019 on Saturday night, taking fourth place overall after securing a pair of top-three individual finishes.
Seven Panthers earned all-conference recognition with Amber Finke and Faith Larsen earning First Team All-MVC honors. Hallory Domnick, Helena Heuberger, Payton Hall, Olivia Chambers and Hannah Taylor all received All-MVC Honorable Mention recognition.
Chambers dropped 11 seconds from her all-time best time to record UNI's third fastest 1650-meter freestyle time of 17:10.48, sneaking onto the podium in seventh place. Sarah Walpole also notched a season-best time of 17:35.87 and finished in 20th place.
Finke clocked a career-best time of 1:57.34 to take second place in the 200-yard backstroke A-Final after securing the top-seed in the following preliminary heats. Finke previously won the event at the 2021 MVC Championships and took third last season.
After winning the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday night, Larsen captured her second individual medal of the meet by taking third in the 100-yard freestyle. Her championship time of 50.26 in the finals and 50.31 in the prelims were both career-bests, and rank third fastest in school history.
Sydney Aird led the Panthers with a 14th place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with after clocking a career-best of 2:20.34. Mia Savicevic swam a season-best time of 2:21.47 in the prelims and finished in 16th place in the final meet of her collegiate career.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Scout Bergwall paced UNI to a 13th place finish with a time of 2:05.98, while Domnick swam a season-best time in the B-Final to finish in 18th. Hannah Nedder recorded a career-best in the prelims of 2:09.65 and finished in 22nd place, swimming in the C-Final.
Taylor competed in her first conference championship round on Saturday, taking eighth place in the three-meter diving finals, scoring a 204.57.
The Panthers closed the meet out as Finke, Morgan Meyer, Abby Lear and Larsen took fourth place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.07.
