UNI swim & dive open MVC Championships with two top-five finishes

IOWA CITY, Iowa --- UNI opened up competition at the 2023 MVC Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Iowa's Campus Recreation-Wellness Center on Wednesday night with a pair of top-5 relays finishes.

Helena Heuberger, Sydney Aird, Scout Bergwall and Faith Larsen kicked the weekend off with a 5th place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking a time of 1:41.12 as the Panthers' "A-relay." UNI's B, D, and E relays all won their respective heats, headlined by the C-relay of Rachel Lenz, Mia Savicevic, Hannah Nedder and Casey Summers finishing in 14th place with a time of 1:45.63.

Amber Finke, Hallory Domnick, Natalia Verastegui and Sarah Walpole picked up bronze in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:36.10. Finke also made UNI history as the lead-off leg for the Panthers' A-Relay with a split of 1:49.43, setting a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle. UNI's B-Relay of Olivia Chambers, Morgan Meyer, Hannah Nedder and Maddie Carleton finished in 9th place (7:36.10).

The Panthers return to action tomorrow morning with the preliminary heats for the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle and one-meter diving.
