Panthers return home for back-to-back home meets on Friday vs. St. Thomas, Sunday against SIU-Edwardsville

HOMEWOOD, Ill. --- UNI tennis dropped a pair of road duals in central and eastern Illinois over the weekend, falling to Northern Illinois on Saturday by a 6-1 score in DeKalb on Saturday, and Chicago State 6-1 on Sunday.

Thaissa Moreira was the lone Panther to pick up victories during the two-dual road trip, grabbing a 6-1, 6-4 singles win over NIU's Reagan Welch on Saturday, before defeating CSU's Sofiya Sedovich in a three-set rally, 2-6, 6-4, 10-3.

Against the Huskies on Saturday, Darta Dalecka fell short to Erika Dimitriev in a 6-2, 6-0 match, while Andrijana Brkic fell to Anastasia Rakita 6-1, 6-2. Kim Zizek finished behind Diana Lukyanova 6-0, 6-3 as Lasya Mylavarapu fell to Jenna Horne, 6-4, 6-0. Trailing Nataly Ninova 5-0 in the first set, Issa Sullivan retired her match at no. 5 singles.

The Panthers improved their play in doubles on Sunday against Chicago State, but were unable to pick up a victory as the Cougars swept all three doubles matches. Daleka and Cardoso, as well as Brkic and Zizek both dropped their matches 6-4, while Moreira and Sullivan fell to Katarina Dukic and Manuella Eloundou-Ng, 6-0.

Brkic challenged Dukic in the first set of her singles match, but fell short 7-5, 6-2, while Zizek came up short in a three-set battle with Kristina Pukhaeva, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. Mylavarapu also challenged Eloundou-Ng in the first frame, but would fall in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.
