UNI: Moreira's rally pushes Panthers past Tommies

Panthers snap three-meet skid with victory in final singles match against St. Thomas.
WATERLOO, Iowa --- UNI's Thaissa Moreira rallied from a 4-0 hole in the second set and one-set deficit in a winner-take-all singles match to help lift UNI tennis past St. Thomas on Friday night in dual competition. The victory is UNI's second dual win of the season, snapping a three-meet skid.
The Panthers started the meet off hot in doubles competition, sweeping all three matches from the Tommies as Lorena Cardoso/Darta Dalecka and Andrijana Brkic/Kim Zizek took down their opponents in 6-4 matches. Thaissa Moreira/Issa Sullivan would need a tiebreaker to decide their match, which the UNI duo were able to secure.
After dropping its first two singles matches of the day, Brkic got UNI on the board in no. 2 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Olivia Paradise for her team-leading 18th singles win of the year.Â
Zizek would come up short in a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Shrichandrakala Tentu, but the Panthers would clinch the final two matches of the dual, starting with Sullivan at no. 6, where she posted an impressive straight sets victory over Naisha Srivastav, 6-1, 6-2.Â
Moreira dropped the first set at no. 5 singles to Snezhko, 6-4 and fell behind 4-0 in the second frame before rallying for a 7-5 win. In the deciding third set, Moreira again battled to the end to hold off her opponent for a 7-5 victory and earn her fifth singles win of the season
