CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI track and field takes the journey west to Lincoln as the Panthers compete in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational this Friday and Saturday. Competition is slated to kick off with the Heptathlon at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, and again at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday from the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
The Panthers return to action following a week of preparation and a series of strong performances at home in the Jack Jennett Invitational and at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City two weeks ago.
UNI won 18 of the 30 events at the Jack Jennett Invitational, including multiple top finishes in the field events. Rylie Todd took first place in the high jump with a 5 foot, 3 inch performance, recording her second first place finish in the event of the indoor season.
In the high jump, Kell Proesch recorded a career-best with 17 foot, 8.25 inch in the long jump securing a first place finish. On the men's side, Carter Morton won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 6 inches. Sarah Byrd won the women's weight throw with a season-best 54 feet, 9 inch toss, as Carson Lienau won the men's shot put (52 feet, 4.5 inches).
On the track, Lindsey Sires secured a first place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.93. Lydia Berns-Schweingruber (9.50) and Kyle Trunnel (8.20) both won the 60-meter hurdles for the Panthers, while Tyler Gray placed first in the 200-meters with a time of 25.86. Sadie Jugens clinched the top spot in the 600-meters (1:40.27), as Brady Grieble won the men's 800-meters (2:00.84). Closing out the meet, the women's 4x400-meter relay (Basala, Stephens, Crawford, Freund) took first place with a time of 4:13.19.
At the Larry Wieczorek Invitational, Rylan Santi broke a 23-year old school sprinting record in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.49 seconds and a third place finish. Jack Sumners set a season-best in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.09 seconds to finish in 4th place, as Drew Bartels finished in 7th (8.16).
Erin Kerkhoff took 6th in the women's 400-meter dash (58.31) with Auriona Kimbrough taking 8th place with a time (58.51). In the men's 400-meters, Onal Mitchell led the Panthers with a career-best time of 48.56 in 4th place, as Andrew Feguson finished in 9th place with a season-best time, clocking in at 49.02.
In the mid-distance races, Sophia Jungling posted a career-best time in the 800-meters of 2:12.97 to take 7th place, while Drake Hanson, Chase Knoche and Micaiah Ellis all set new career-bests in the men's 800-meters. Hanson finished 2nd in the men's Hawkeye Pro 800-meters with a time of 1:51.33, as Knoche finished in 3rd premier race (1:54.40) with Ellis in 5th place (1:55.29).
