CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI swimming and diving team returns home for their final home meet of the 2022-23 season as the Panthers host Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) rival Illinois State in a two-day dual at the Glen F. Henry Pool.
The diving competition will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. For swimming, competition begins at 5 p.m. with senior recognition followed by competition at 11:00 a.m on Saturday. The program will honor eight senior athletes. Live results will be available via Meet Mobile app and Dive Meets.Â
The Panthers are 4-2-1 in their previous 7 duals with the Redbirds. UNI has put together an impressive resume in dual competition this season, winning 11 of 12 duals in November at the Coyote Extravaganza. UNI's next dual win would be the 12th of the season, which would mark a new single-season high mark under head coach Nick Lakin.
Faith Larsen enters this weekend's dual with the top time in the MVC in the 50-yard freestyle of 22.96, currently the 3rd fastest time in program history. Larsen also ranks 6th in the conference in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.99. This will be Larsen's first competition since swimming at the U.S. Open Championships in December in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she matched her career-best time in the 50-meter freestyle and qualified for the C-final.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Amber Finke sits near the top of the MVC with the conference's 2nd fastest time of the season with a 1:57.55. Hallory Domnick leads the UNI distance swimmers in the 200-freestyle with a season-best mark of 1:51.83. Scout Bergwall anchors the Panthers in the 200-yard butterfly with the 3rd fastest time in school history at 2:05.28, while freshman Sydney Aird leads UNI in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.05, 5th best on the program's top times sheet.
Sophomore Olivia Chambers will also return to the water for the first time since winning a pair of gold medals at the U.S. Paralympic National Championships in December in Charlotte, North Carolina. Chambers took home titles in the 400-meter freestyle and 200-yard individual medley and was also named the Swimmer of the Meet by virtue of having the best overall point total among competing athletes.
In the diving well, the Panthers are on board for the first time since the Hawkeye Invitational in December. Senior Taylor Hogan, the reigning MVC Diver of the Year, finished 2nd in the B-final of the one-meter springboard competition with a score of 259.90 as Abby Hutchins took 7th, scoring a 237.85. In the three-meter competition, Erica Peters posted the 9th highest score in school history with a 258.20 with a 5th place finish in the B-final, while Hogan took 6th place with a score of 255.95.
