Panther cross country: Marrs and Crawford lead UNI at Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. --- Kate Crawford and Payton Marrs led the Panther field as UNI cross country competed at the Gans Creek Classic on Friday morning, hosted by the University of Missouri.
The UNI women's team finished in 12th place in the 24-team field with 366 points, while the men took 17th place out of 22 teams competing with 475 points.
Crawford was the first Panther to cross the finish line in the women's 6K race on Friday in 59th place out of 240 runners with a time of 21:44, a 3 second improvement from her time on the same course a year ago. Emma Hoins took 72nd place with a season-best 6K time of 21:53, while Sophia Jungling ran a 22:09 in 89th place. Mia Rampton recorded a 22:16 for an 81st place finish, as Isabelle Schaffer ran a 22:23 in 107th, and Paige Holub took 120th place with a time 22:35. Sydney Schaffer rounded out the scored runners in 123rd place, running a time of 23:16.
In the men's 8k race, Marrs shaved 72 second off his first race of the season to finish in 75th place out of 237 competitors with a time of 24:55. Brady Griebel (25:25, 118th place) and Caleb Shumaker (25:27, 120th place) followed behind just two seconds apart from one another, as freshman Jayden Dickson ran a 25:54 for 156th place. Drake Hanson recorded the second fastest 8K time of his career (26:08) to take 169th place, while Kon Dut finished in 207th with a time of 27:20 to round out the UNI field.
