Storbeck shoots season-best round as Doyle eagles in third round of competition
OMAHA, Neb. — Anna Jensen, Thomas Storbeck and Tommy Doyle eached carded top-10 finishes as the Panthers wrapped up play on Tuesday at the Big O Classic in Nebraska. The UNI women competed at the Oak Hills Country Club hosted by Creighton, with the Panther men playing at the Indian Hills Golf Course hosted by Omaha.
ROUND 3
On the women's side, the Panthers finished 8th in the 9-team field with a team score of 980. Wichita State won the team title with a score of 926, as Creighton's Elanor Hudepohl was the tournament's top-finisher after carding a 219 (70-74-75).
Anna Jensen shot a third round 78 (+5) on Tuesday, finishing in 8th place overall. Anna Nacos tied for 31st shooting 242 with a final round score of 84, as freshman Victoria Hualde played as an individual for her first intercollegiate tournament, tying for 48th carding 253 (91-79-83).
Madison Humke shot 254 (81-84-89) tying for 50th, while Rylie Driskell placed 54th notching a total of 255 (85-83-87) and earning herself a team-best of 3 birdies in the last round of play. Lily Bredemeier rounded out the Panther field tied for 55th carding a total of 256 (86-81-89).
In the men's competition, UNI finished in 10th place overall with a team score of 982. St. Thomas (Minn.) claimed the team championship scoring an 863, three strokes ahead of Omaha and SIU Edwardsville, who tied for 2nd. Shaun Campbell of Creighton won the individual title shooting 210 (-6).
Doyle recorded a strong second day of play for the Panthers, tying for 6th place with teammate Thomas Storbeck after recording a season-best round of 70 (-2) on Tuesday, headlined by an eagle on the 11th hole. Storbeck shot 72 (E) in his final round, finishing with a total score of 212.
Connor Van Weelden tied for 68th notching 231 (76-76-79), followed by Jack Moody, who played as an individual and tied for 76th with a score of 233 (70-76-87). Griffin Parker and JD Pollard both tied for 80th overall, shooting a total of 234.
ROUNDS 1-2
On the women's side, the Panthers sat in 6th place in the 9 team field with a team score of 642 (324-318).
Jensen shot a team-best 75 (+2) in the first round before shooting 79 (+6) in the second round for a total of 154 (+8). Anna Nacos sat in 20th after day one with a score of 158 (+12) after carding a 75 in the second round, while Madison Humke tied for 35th place with a score of 165 (81-84). Lily Bredemeier carded 167 (86-81), while Rylie Driskell tied for 45th, shooting 168 (85-83).
In the men's competition, the Panthers sat in 11th place overall against the 14-team field, shooting a total of 592.
Storbeck opened Monday's action carding a 75 (+3) in the first round before notching a season-best 68 (-5) with 6 birdies in the second round. Tommy Doyle tied for 18th shooting 145 (72-73), as Jack Moody, who competed as an individual carded 146 (70-76) and is tied for 22nd. Connor VanWeelden shot 76 (+4) in both rounds for a total of 152 (+8), with Griffin Parker sitting in 72nd place with a total of 154 (75-79). JD Pollard rounded out the UNI field in a tie for 77th after carding 155 (75-81) on Monday.
