UNI cross country: Hoins and Schumaker pace Panthers at Bradley Pink Classic

Panther women finish in 18th, men in 33rd in final meet before MVC Championships
PEORIA, Ill. --- With the 2022 season beginning to wind down, UNI cross country took to the course at the Newman Golf Course on Friday afternoon, looking to build momentum ahead of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships in two weeks time.
The Panther women finished 18th place in the large 42-team field with 519 points, while the men secured a 33rd place out of 35 teams tallying 864 points.Â
Emma Hoins led the Panther pack of ten runners in the field of 306 competitors in the 6K race, securing a top-100 finish in 85th place with a time of 21:54. Paige Holub took 102nd place in 22 minutes flat, recording a 28 record improvement from last year's Bradley Pink Classic. Kate Crawford finished shortly behind Holub with a time of 22:07 in 112th place, while Isabelle Schaffer crossed the finish line in 129th place in 22:14 with a nine second improvement on her career-best time. Sydney Schaffer took 142nd place with a time of 22:20.Â
In the men's 8k, out of eight Panthers competing, Caleb Shumaker led UNI finishing in 155th place landing a time of 25:22, a five second improvement on his career-best time. Brady Griebel crossed the finish line in 169th place in 25:29, knocking off 18 seconds from the Bradley Pink Classic last season as a freshman. In 203rd place, Payton Marrs recorded a time of 25:51, while Drake Hanson took 221st place with a time of 26:03 for the Panthers.Â
