Panthers Gear Up for Tom Botts Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI track and field team heads to Columbia, Mo. this weekend to compete at the Tom Botts Invitational, hosted by Mizzou at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Competition kicks off on Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and women's javelin. Friday's track events are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. with the women's 1500 meters. Saturday's field events begin at 11:30 a.m. with the men's shot put and women's discus, while track events are slated to start at noon with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
Last Time Out
UNI opened the outdoor season on April 3 at the USD Early Bird meet in Vermillion, SD, with three event wins and 32 top-five finishes. Graduate student Darius King clinched first in the men's shot put with a commanding performance, posting a toss of 19.06m. Freshman Parker Kiewiet recorded a leap of 7.11m in the men's long jump, earning gold, and junior Jill Vonnahme stopped the clock at 18:11.38 for a personal-best and first-place finish in the women's 5000 meters.
The Purple and Gold garnered second-place finishes in the men's shot put (graduate student Thomas Yezek, 17.05m), men's discus (Yezek, 53.37m), men's 200 meters (senior Tayshaun Cooper and Kiewiet, 21.82), women's 200 meters (graduate student Taylor Raines, 24.62), women's 1500 meters (junior Paige Holub, 4:31.94), women's 4x100-meter relay, and men's and women's 4x400-meter relays.
MVC Standings
After their first outdoor meet of the season, the Panthers lead the Missouri Valley Conference in four events. Holub leads in the women's 1500 meters category.
