UNI Softball Defeat Iowa State 10-2

Cedar Falls, Iowa - UNI softball continued to stay hot at the plate when the Panthers hosted in state rival Iowa State Wednesday, April 14 2021. The Panthers defeated the Cyclones 10-2 in six short innings. UNI now moves to 19-13 overall and extends their win streak to seven games.
UNI 10, Iowa State 2
The Panthers started off on the scoreboard first after Senior Sammey Bunch hit a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. Bunch's solo home run pushed her single season home run total to eighteen, which is now a UNI single season record. Bunch previously held the record herself with seventeen. The Panthers would tack on another run in the bottom half when Sophomore Brooke Snider doubled to left field followed by Freshman Ellie Owen singling up the middle that would score Snider from second. UNI scored two runs again in the 2nd (4-0), once in the 4th (5-2), and five runs in the 6th from a bases loaded triple by Sammey Bunch that would end the game.
At the plate the Panthers were led by Sammey Bunch, who continues her impressive Senior season. Bunch went 3-for-3, one home run, one triple, four RBI's, two runs, walked once, and was hit by pitch once. Sammy Bunch's 18th home run of the season doesn't only put her at the top of the list at UNI. She also is tied for 4th in the Missouri Valley Conference for a single season, only six home runs behind leader Renae Sinkler of Creighton (2010). In her career Bunch is tied for 2nd with 55 home runs while only being three home runs behind Amy Baker of Creighton (2010 – 2013) in the Missouri Valley Conference.
In the circle Hailey Sanders (1-1) picked up her first win of the season after throwing a complete game against the Cyclones. Sanders went six strong innings giving up two earned runs, on five hits, struck out four, walked three, while facing twenty-three Iowa State batters.

The Panthers will be back in action Apr.16 – Apr.17 as they hit the road to play against the Ramblers of Loyola Chicago. UNI will play a double header Friday with the first pitches set at 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm while Saturday's game will start at 11:00 am. All games can be watched on ESPN3 or followed through live stats.
