Softball Picks Up First MVC Win Of The Season

Springfield, Missouri - The Panthers (10-12) defeated the Bears of Missouri State on Sunday, March 21st. UNI went (1-2) on the weekend against the Bears.

UNI got on the scoreboard first scoring two runs in the Top of the 1^st inning. The Bears would answer by scoring three of their own in the bottom half. Neither team would score again till the 5^th inning when the Panthers managed to push four runs across making the score 6-3. Much like the 1^st inning, the Bears would answer by scoring three in the bottom half. UNI went on to push one run across in the top of the 6^th to take the lead 7-6. Neither team scored again as the Panthers went on to win.

At the plate the Panthers were led by Freshman Emmy Wells, Daryn Lamprecht, and Faith Standerski. Wells and Lamprecht went 2-for-3. Wells also tallied two runs, one run and four putouts. Lamprecht scored one run, one RBI, drew one walk, and recorded five putouts. Standerski went 2-for-4, driving in one run, and recorded one putout.

In the circle three Panther pitchers contributed including Junior Erica Oler, Freshman Hailey Sanders, and Sophomore Kailyn Packard. Oler started the game going 1.1 innings giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out three. Sanders came in to relieve Oler and then went 3.0 Innings giving up three runs on three hits. Packard finished the game for UNI. She went 2.2 innings facing seven batters striking out one and walking one while gaining the win.

The Panthers will be back in action Mar. 27 – Mar. 28 when the team travels to Terre Haute, Indiana to take on the Sycamores of Indiana State. The teams will play in a triple header over the weekend, including two games on Saturday and one on Sunday. The first pitch for Saturday's matchups are set for 12:00 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. Sunday's game will start at 11:00 a.m.
