Softball Battles Against Missouri State

Springfield, Missouri - UNI Softball finished 0-2 on the first day of the Rock Chalk Challenge, falling to South Dakota State 1-2, and Kansas 1-4.
Game 1 - UNI vs. Missouri State | L, 1-2
The Panthers lone run came from a home run by Sophomore Kamryn Shaffer in the 3rd inning taking the lead 1-0. The Bears later scored off two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning from a two run home run making the score 2-1. UNI couldn't get anything going in the top half and would lose the first game to the Bears 2-1.
Sophomore Erica Oler threw a complete game for the Panthers. Oler went six innings, giving up four hits, two runs, two earned, striking out one, and walking one.
At the plate, the Panthers recorded five hits. One being a home run from Kamryn Shaffer that would be the lone run of the game. Hannah Kelley and Broke Snider both went 2-for-3 for the Panthers.
Game 2 - UNI vs Missouri State | L, 3-4
Offensively, Sammey Bunch, Daryn Lamprecht, and Kamryn Shaffer all recorded one home, all three being solo shots. Bunch went 3-for-5 with one home run, one RBI, and one run. Lamprecht went 3-for-6 with one home run, one RBI, and one run. Shaffer went 1-for-2 with one home run, one RBI, one run, and three walks.
Sophomore Kayiln Packard got the ball to start for UNI (10-11) and got the loss. The Panther ace gave up four runs, one earned, on ten hits, struck out eight while walking three.
The Panthers ended game two with three runs, ten hits, and four errors. UNI started off on the scoreboard first in top of the 2nd inning when Kamryn Shaffer hit her second home run of the day putting the Panthers up 1-0. The Bears would go on to score two runs in the 5th inning taking the lead 2-1. UNI found a spark from Daryn Lamprecht in the 6th inning hitting a solo home run tying the game at 2-2. Senior Sammey Bunch would step to the plate in the top of the 7th with the score tied 2-2. Bunch would homer to deep left center to put the Panthers up 3-2. The Bears scored one in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game and send It to extra innings.
In extra innings the Panthers couldn't push any runs across in the top half of the 8th inning. Both teams went scoreless until the 11th inning when the Bears of Missouri State scored to end the game with a final of 4-3.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, March 21st when the Panthers will finish the first weekend of conference play against Missouri State with the first pitch set for 11:00 a.m.
