King Set to Compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI shot-putter Darius King is set to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in Fayetteville, Ark. after finishing ninth in the NCAA rankings. The men's shot put is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. central time on Friday, March 12.
At the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, King cliched gold and earned all-conference honors in the men's shot put with a toss of 19.77m. King's toss broke the previous MVC meet record of 19.40m and was 0.29m from his school record and personal-best of 20.06m. King also saw the podium for the men's weight throw, placing third with a throw of 19.80m.
Scouting the Competition
The nation's top 16 competitors, including King, are set to compete in Friday's event. Three contenders have marks over 21.00m, with Arizona State's Turner Washington leading the pack with a mark of 21.85m, set on Feb. 12 at the Texas Tech Shootout. Following Washington is Texas' Adrian Piperi with a mark of 21.74m, recorded on Feb. 6 at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. Third in the nation is McKay Johnson from USC, who posted a toss of 21.45m, also at Feb. 12's Texas Tech Shootout. North Dakota State has the most contenders in the field with three (Alex Talley, Maxwell Otterdahl, and Kristoffer Thomsen).
