Panthers Defeat Evansville 67-31

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI Panthers women's basketball team rolled past the Aces on Saturday, 67-31. The Panthers claimed a new game-high 16 three-pointers with the 36-point win.
The Panthers came out strong in the first quarter and held the Aces to zero points. This is the first time UNI has forced a shutout to end a quarter.
The Aces made their first two points from the free-throw line two minutes into the second quarter. They would end the quarter with two back-to-back three-pointers and a turnover that allowed Sara McCullough to make a layup at the buzzer. The Panthers led 24-11 going into the third quarter where the Panthers scored seven three-pointers.
Rylie Stephens from the Aces scored the first points of the game for Evansville two minutes into the second quarter. Stephens led the Aces with seven points and Abby Feit recorded a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Panthers ended the game on a 20-6 scoring run and went 31.5% from the field. The Aces went 22.6% from the field and capitalized at the free-throw line shooting 71.4%. UNI made 12 points off of fastbreaks and 19 points off of turnovers, but the Aces outscored the Panthers in the paint. Evansville made 18 points where UNI only finished with 14 points in the paint.
Karli Rucker held the game-high 19 points, five being three-pointers, and added seven assists and two steals. Kam Finley and Kayba Laube added to the three-point achievement sinking three three-pointers each.
The Panthers and the Aces will meet Sunday, Feb. 28 at 12 p.m. on the McCoy Court for the final game in the MVC series against the Evansville Aces, the last game in the McLeod Center for the 2020-21 season, and Senior Day.
GAME NOTES:
- The Panthers are the second team to hold the Aces to 31 points this season.
- Cynthia Wolf and Bre Gunnels recorded 11 rebounds each.
- Karli Rucker leads the Panthers in assists with 91 this season.
- Kayba Laube scored all of her nine points from three-pointers.
- Megan Maahs has 822 rebounds going into her final game in the McLeod Center.
