UNI swim and dive breaks competition hiatus at Omaha-Nebraska

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - After a two-week break from competition, the UNI swim and dive team dominated against the University of Omaha at Nebraska. UNI ended the meet with seven first-place finishes, and Taylor Hogan landed a first-place finish on both boards.Â
After finishing second in the 500 medley relay, UNI went on to find three consecutive first-place finishes before the first diving break. Sarah Walpole, Rachelle Houlette and Abbie Bangs claimed first place in the 900 free relay after Bangs chased down the Mavericks to win by 21-hundredths of a second.
Lily Ernst, Scout Bergwall and Hallory Domnick raced in the 300 fly relay and captured first place as well as the 300 back relay team consisting of Helena Heuberger, Payton Hall and Amber Finke.Â
Hogan led the divers on both boards, taking first place in each. Hogan scored 234 points on the 1-meter board and 275.93 on the 3-meter board. Maddie Moran found herself in second place on the 3-meter board with a score of 241.88 points.Â
First-place finishes continued with the 200 medley relay comprising Heuberger, Lavigne, Lauren Havertape and Faith Larsen (1:49.72) and the 200 free relay with Clare Christensen, Waren Graeve, Taylor Short and Larsen (1:38.91).Â
In 2:56.13, Lavigne, Payton Hall, and Olivia Chambers claimed first place in the 3x100 medley relay, and to end the meet, Christensen, Natalia Verastegui, Short and Liz Purtle raced the 8x50 Freestyle Relay in 3:17.95 to claim the last first place of the meet.Â
The Panthers will take a break from competition until after New Years when they travel to Normal, Illinois, and challenge the Illinois State Redbirds in a two-day dual. The meet will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 14 and again at 11 a.m. Jan. 15. Fans can follow along on MeetMobile.Â
