UNI Track Returns From Break at Hawkeye Invite

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI track and field is back in action after the holiday break. They return to Iowa City on Friday, Jan. 10, for the Hawkeye Invite at the University of Iowa Recreation Building.
The Hawkeye Invite hosts teams from Bradley, Iowa Central, Northern Illinois, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, and Western Illinois.
The Panthers look to continue to build off of the success of the Jimmy Grant Invite. Numerous athletes had a strong start to the season with multiple personal records (PRs) and freshmen debuts.
Darius King now sits second in the NCAA in the shot put, but claimed the school, meet, and facility records with a throw of 19.58m in the season opener. He is also ranked 2nd in the MVC for weight throw, following teammate Kyler Yodts.
Jack Sumners and Chase Van Sant are currently tied for second in the MVC standings for long jump with a mark of 7.19m. Isaiah Trousil currently sits at fifth in the NCAA for 300 meters with a time of 33.74 and holds the school record. The 4x400 relay team is also currently ranked 14th in the NCAA with a time of 3:14.74.
On the women's side, Emily Vos sits at fifth in the MVC for 60 meters with a time of 7.83, followed closely by teammates Jill Bennet (7.87 -6th) and Emily Paul (7.92- 8th). Patrice Watson sits at third in 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.76. Brooke Lorenz holds the second spot in Long Jump with a distance of 5.55m. Allison Griffin holds fourth and fifth for Weight Throw and Shot Put respectively.
The Hawkeye Invite starts on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with men's and women's Weight Throw. The rest of the events will continue on Saturday. Saturday will include field and jump events at 10:00 a.m. and running events at 12:15 p.m.
