Panthers Finish Third at Nebraska Spring Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. – The UNI track and field team picked up four event wins and 20 top-three finishes at the Nebraska Husker Spring Invite Saturday en route to a third-place finish in both the men's and women's team scores.
The Panthers picked up wins from Lyndsie Schinkel in the 800 with a time of 2:08.74, the best time in the MVC so far this season and just a fraction of a second off of her career-best. McKayla Cole won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:21.12.
On the men's side, Evan Long ran a PR time of 47.29 in the 400-meter dash to take the gold and the top time in the MVC by more than a second. Four Panthers in the event, Long, Connor Blough, Sven Van Den Bergh and Bryce Newcomb, put up faster times than anyone in the MVC had recorded prior to this week.
Wal Khat finished first in the 1,500 with a time of 3:59.45 to capture the other gold for the Panther men.
Connor Ham finished second in the 110 hurdles but, his time of 14.11 is just 2/100ths off of his personal best and the best time in the MVC to date.
All four relays on the men's and the women's teams finished second. The men's 4x400-meter relay team put up the best time in the MVC by more than two seconds.
The UNI men finished with 124 points. Nebraska won the men's title with 238.5 points, North Dakota State was second at 135.5. The hosts also won the women's team title with a score of 211. NDSU was second at 170, the Panthers finished with a score of 143.
The Panthers are back in action Saturday, April 13 at the Musco Twilight, hosted by the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
