TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – UNI softball swept its doubleheader on Saturday against the Indiana State Sycamores to open up conference play.
Northern Iowa vs. Indiana State | Final Score – W, 6-3
Emma Olejniczak picked up her team-leading fourth pitching victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Olejniczak went four innings while striking out two and allowing one run. The right hander did not walk a batter and allowed only three base hits.
Freshman Erica Oler pitched two innings of relief while giving up one hit and not walking a batter. Oler allowed two runs, both unearned.
Brooke Craig came into the game in relief of Oler and pitched one inning while striking out two and walking a batter.
The Panthers got off to an early lead against the Sycamores and never looked back. Brittney Krodinger led off the game with a solo shot before Sammey Bunch came to the plate and followed up with her own solo home run.
UNI would be held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning when Emma Valainis singled up the middle to score Ashley Chesser. After Tianna Drahn pinch ran for Valainis, and Jenny Kohl singled to reach base, B. Krodinger sent a shot over the left center field fence for her second home run of the day. The two home runs doubled B. Krodinger's season total.
Valainis had a base hit and a walk for the Panthers to go along with her RBI. Chesser was one of three UNI batters to finish with a multi-hit game, as the catcher went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Kohl, getting the start in left field in game one, went 2-4 and also finished with a run score.
Northern Iowa vs. Indiana State | Final Score – W, 10-3
Hannah Kelley was the starter for the second game of the doubleheader but lasted only one inning. Kelley allowed three runs while walking two and giving up three hits. Kelley did not strike out an Indiana State batter.
For the second straight game, Craig was called on in relief and was spectacular as she allowed zero runs in six innings of work. Craig gave up four base hits and struck out one batter, and did not walk a Sycamore.
For the second game in a row, UNI kicked off the game with some early scoring thanks to a leadoff home run from B. Krodinger and a two-run shot from Adara Opiola.

Krodinger, and Courtney Krodinger singled into right to extend the UNI lead to 5-3. A two-run single from Chesser game the Panthers a four-run lead.
The Panthers loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but were unable to bring any runs across home plate.
