UNI Softball Opens Conference Play at Indiana State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panthers travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to open up conference play against the Indiana State Sycamores.
UNI enters the weekend with a 9-9 record after finishing up pre-conference play in the Racer Classic in Murray, Kentucky. The Panthers went 2-2 in Murray after splitting their games on Sunday and Monday. The Sycamores are 8-9 on the season after a 1-2 finish in the Memphis Softball Tournament last weekend.
The Panthers are 61-31 all-time against the Sycamores. Under head coach Ryan Jacobs, UNI is 19-12 against Indiana State, with a 10-2 record on the road in Terre Haute. Last season, UNI hosted Indiana State and went 2-1 against the Sycamores.
Sammey Bunch leads the Panthers with 25 runs scored, six home runs and 16 RBIs. Bunch comes into the series after being named MVC Player of the Week last weekend, when the junior shortstop went 5-8 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored. Bunch continues to add to her accolades, with this being her third weekly MVC honor in her career.
Olivia Brooks is top-two in the MVC in batting average with a .460 average and hits (29). After being named to the second-team All-MVC in 2018, Brooks has been a consistent threat for the UNI offense the last two seasons with 56 hits in her last 125 at bats (0.448 batting average).
Following the series against Indiana State, the Panthers travel to Springfield Missouri to take on the Missouri State Bears, on March 23 and 24.
