UNI Softball Blanks North Florida in Finale

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panthers picked up a shutout victory on Sunday over the North Florida Ospreys, 7-0, to cap off the UNF Invitational.
Northern Iowa vs. North Florida | Final Score – W, 7-0
Brooke Craig was solid in the weekend finale as she pitched seven shutout innings while walking two and giving up five hits. Craig also struck out three North Florida batters as she picked up her second pitching victory of the year.
The Panthers spread the scoring evenly throughout the game en route to their victory over the Ospreys. In the top of the second inning Hannah Kelley doubled to left center to drive in Tianna Drahn and Kamryn Shaffer. Olivia Brooks added a run with a single to third base, which scored Kelley.
UNI tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth on a Sammey Bunch single to left field to score pinch-runner Craig. Brooks followed with her second RBI base hit of the game on a single down the left field line that allowed Claire Dudek to race home and score.
In the top of the sixth inning, Brittney Krodinger launched a home run to left center field for her first long ball of the season. The home run was a two-run shot that scored Dudek.
Two Panthers finished with multiple hits including Brooks who finished with four hits in the game. Brooks now has 18 hits on the season and pushes her batting average to an outstanding .545 in ten games. Kelley went 2-4 with two RBIs in the game, which were the first two RBIs of the freshman's career.
Dudek scored two runs and reached base in all three plate attempts without recording a base hit. Dudek walked twice and was hit by a pitch once.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers head to Oklahoma to play in the Oklahoma State and Tulsa Tournaments in two weeks. UNI opens up the play in the tournament against the University of Illinois at noon CT March 1.
