Northern Iowa Panthers at Drake Bulldogs | Final Score – L, 6-0
The Drake Bulldogs showcased why they have been dubbed the best pitching team in the Missouri Valley Conference, Tuesday, as the Panthers struggled to find any consistency on offense against senior pitcher Kailee Smith.
Brooke Craig got the start for UNI, and went four and two-thirds innings while allowing six runs (four earned) on two walks and seven hits. Craig also picked up two strikeouts, which extended her team lead in Ks (72). The loss was number 10 on the season for the righty out of Waterloo.
Emma Olejniczak also pitched for the Panthers, striking out three in her inning and-a-third of relief work. Courtney Krodinger also faced two batters, but was unable to get an out, while allowing a hit and walking a Bulldog.
The Panthers had just three hits and one walk on Tuesday. It was the sixth time this season that UNI has been shutout in a loss. Five of those shutout losses have come in conference play.
Kennedy Bailey, Olivia Brooks and Tianna Drahn were the only UNI starters to reach base on a hit Tuesday. Catcher Ashley Chesser was able to reach on a base on balls in the seventh inning.
With the base hit against the Bulldogs, Brooks extends her hitting streak to six games. She has recorded a base hit in seven of her last eight starts.
