Records Start Falling for UNI Swim and Dive

TOPEKA, Kansas— Records were falling for the University of Northern Iowa swimming and diving team as competition began today at the Kansas Classic and Hawkeye Invitational.
Action will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Kansas Classic
Katie Taylor broke the UNI school and Kansas Classic record in the 200 IM as she timed in at one minute, fifty-nine seconds, and fifty-eight hundredths of a second (1:59.58). The previous record was set in 2012, with a time of 2:00.79.
Taylor would play a role in breaking two additional school records on the first day of competition. In the 400 medley relay, Taylor reset the 100 backstroke record with a time of 54.24. Taylor, Moriah Ross, Crystal Florman, and Abby Meyer would break the school record in the event, timing in at 3:41.48. The relay team finished second in the race.
Crystal Florman added another first place finish to her resume this season, as she took first in the 50 freestyle, timing in at 23.19.
Taylor, Florman, Moriah Ross, and Abby Meyer timed in at 1:33.46 in the 200 freestyle relay for third place.
Ross finished sixth in the A final of the 200 IM, swimming a 2:05.31. Madison Rinaldi competed in the C final of the 200 IM, timing in at 2:09.31. Alivia Soares times in at 2:12.26 in the event.
Kylie Engstrom swam a 5:00.39 in the 500 freestyle in the A Final. Jordan McCullough led the C final swimmers, timing in at 5:03.82. Anika Lillegard-Bouton swam a 5:08.79 in the C final of the event.
Meyer and Lauren Havertape competed in the C final of the 50 freestyle. Meyer timed in at 24.03, while Havertape clocked in at 24.37. Competing in the D final of the 50 freestyle, Lauren Kacmarynski timed in at 24.70. Â In the E final of the 50 freestyle, Ashleigh Houlette timed in at 24.57. Jenna Willer and Natalie Nelson rounded the Panthers out in the event, with times of 24.89 and 24.93 respectively.
Hawkeye Invitational
At the Hawkeye Invitational, Jayden Lovell led the Panthers on the 1-meter boards, diving a 200.65. Senior Alyssa Deuso dove a 192.30 after returning from an injury earlier this season. Mary Kate Ferlmann and Madison Schoppe rounded out the Panthers, diving a 178.65 and a 161.40 respectively. Â
