COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior Brandon Carnes wrapped up an outstanding indoor season today at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships, earning second-team All-America honors.
Carnes competed in the 60 meter dash in College Station, running a time of 6.66. Unfortunately for the senior, he did not qualify for tomorrow's final. The senior earned his second-career indoor All-America honor, ending an indoor season to remember.
The Bradenton, Fla., native broke records and made history this season as a Panther and decorated athlete in the Missouri Valley Conference.
He started the season by blasting the MVC and school record in the 60 meter dash in January, running a time of 6.59. It ranked him second in the nation and in the top-10 in the world at the time, setting the standard early that he planned to defend his MVC Championship titles.
At the MVC Indoor Championships at the end of February, he became the first athlete in conference history to win both the 60 and 200 meter dashes in four consecutive seasons. He earned MVC Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the meet for the second time in his indoor career, leading into his biggest award to date.
Carnes was named the USTFCCCA Midwest Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year and was honored at the NCAA Awards Banquet prior to the NCAA Championship meet.
Heading into the outdoor season, Carnes has 14 individual MVC titles. The Panthers get the outdoor season started on March 25 when they compete at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic in Carbondale, Ill.
