Panthers Finish Regular Season At Iowa Open

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa track and field program wrapped up the regular season today at the Iowa Open, getting in one last competition before the MVC Indoor Championships next weekend.
The Panthers got started on the track in the 60 meter hurdles with both Lauren Frederick and Daurice Fountain finishing third in their respective races. Frederick posted a personal-best time of 8.75 in the women's race while Fountain finished with a time of 8.20 after running a season-best time of 8.09 in the preliminary race.
Elijah Hicks put together a pair of strong races for the Panthers in the short sprints, finishing second overall in both the 60 and 200 meter dashes. He started the day in the 60, running a career-best time of 6.94, followed by a PR of 22.08 in the 200 meter dash.
In the 400 meters, Raheem Black came away with a win in the men's race, crossing the finish line in 50.71. Maddie Irmen competed on the women's side, finishing with a new personal-best time of 56.61 to finish second.
Moving into the middle distance races, the Panthers swept the men's and women's 800 meters with Theresa Connelly and Andrew Arndt both coming away victorious. Connelly won her race with the second-best time of her career in 2:13.93 while Arndt finished in 1:55.50 for the men.
In the field, Shawn Koch won the men's triple jump with a mark of 45-5.00 while Bryce Newcomb and Amanada Wiebke finished second in the men's and women's long jump. Newcomb grabbed a mark of 22-10.50 while Wiebke notched a career-best 16-11.25.
The Panthers will return to action Feb. 25-26 when they host the MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships inside the UNI-Dome.
