UNI Travels To Ames For NCAA Midwest Regional

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – After a runner-up finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship last time out, the Northern Iowa women's cross country team prepares for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday in Ames, Iowa.
Friday's 6K will start at 10:45 a.m. CT, as the Panthers seek to better last season's 10th-place finish which marked the highest in program history at a regional meet.
UNI is coming into Friday's NCAA Midwest Regional trending up, after the Panthers turned in a second-place finish at the MVC Championship on Oct. 28, 2017. UNI had five Panthers finish in the top 15, with Tiffany Christensen leading the pack with a ninth-place showing after running a 17:47.5 in the 5K.
McKayla Cole was not far behind Christensen, finishing 10th with a time of 17:51.5. The top-10 performance netted UNI the MVC Freshman of the Year award for the second-consecutive season as Cole earned the prestigious honor.
Christensen and Cole earned All-MVC honors, while Ashley Norem, Hannah Truniger and Brette Correy claimed All-MVC Honorable Mention.
With two automatic team bids at each NCAA regional, the rest are team at-large bids. Four individual spots automatically qualify, leaving the rest to qualify on place. For individuals not selected with a team, four student-athletes per region will be selected as long as the individual has placed in the top 25 of their region and then a final two individuals will be selected after that.
