Panthers Swimming and Diving Wins First Home Meet

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa---The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming and diving team defeated the Sioux Falls Cougars 166.5 to 99.5.
The Panthers team of Crystal Florman, Moriah Ross, Katie Taylor and Molly Lembezeder took home first place in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. In the 200 medley, the Panthers swam a time of one minute, forty-six seconds and 76 hunderths of a second. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team swam a 1:37.81, four seconds ahead of Sioux Falls.
Taylor took first in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:07.81. Taylor was three seconds ahead of teammate Madison Rinaldi, swimming in at 2:07.74 in the 200 backstroke. Rinaldi swam a 2:10.08 for second place.
Florman took first in the 100 freestyle, timing in at 53.33.
Jordan McCullough swam into first place, seconds ahead of Sioux Falls's Nina Groene. McCullough swam a 5:20.26 in the 500 freestyle.
Lembezeder swam into first place in the 50 freestyle, timing in at 24.41. Lembezeder won this event last evening against Nebraska.
Ross and Lembezeder spilt first and second places in the 100 butterfly. Ross swam a 59.83 with Lembezeder following at 1:00.43.
"Sioux Falls is a well-coached team that is on the rise," remarked UNI head coach Nick Lakin.
Rinaldi swam a 2:13.60 in the 200 IM, seconds ahead of Michelle Hoffin for Sioux Falls.
Kylie Engstrom and Maddie Bagby took first and second in the 200 freestyle, swimming 1:57.44 and 1:57.98 respectively.
Kelsey Ostrowski and Alex Binkley swam into first and third places in the 200 butterfly. Ostrowski swam a 2:11.90 and Binkley swam a 2:18.63.
Senior Olivia Knowles and freshman Olivia Crouse received first and third places in the 200 breaststroke. Knowles swam a 2:29.99, while Crouse followed at 2:32.04.
In the diving well, freshman Izzy Bunchek qualified for the NCAA Zoning Diving championships.
"They were tough across all events, but we had some good swims where we showed improvement from our last two meets," noted Lakin.
Florman and Abby Meyer competed in the 100 backstroke, receiving second and third places. Florman swam a 1:02.51, while Meyer finished at 1:02.66.
Meredith Gorman swam into fourth in the 1000 freestyle, swimming a 11:09.71.
The Panthers return to action Oct. 27 as they travel to South Dakota at 5 p.m.
