Panthers Score PRs In The UNI-Dome

Jack Jennett Open Results | Mark Messersmith Results
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa hosted two successful meets over the weekend coming away with first-time wins and personal-bests at both the Jack Jennett Open and the Mark Messersmith Invitational.
A pair of freshmen started the weekend with wins in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meters at the Jack Jennett Open with Katie Maschmann and Jasmine Blue coming away victorious. Maschmann ran a personal-best time of 7.93 in the finals of the 60 meter dash while Blue chimed in with a time of 25.53 in the 200.
In the Mark Messersmith Invitational, senior Brandon Carnes blew away the competition in the men's 200 meters. The senior ran a season-best time of 21.46, quickly ranking himself at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference.
In the men's 60 meter hurdles at the Mark Messersmith Invitational, the Panthers shined, turning in multiple personal-bests. Jon Rus led the way, running a career-best of 7.91 in the preliminary race and then placing second in the finals with a time of 7.92. His time of 7.91 ranks him second in the Valley and third all-time at UNI.
In the distance events, Hannah Truniger came away with a win in the women's mile at the Mark Messersmith Invitational while the Panthers swept the 3,000 meters with Kelsey Leedy winning the event at the Jack Jennett Open and Ashley Norem coming away victorious at the Mark Messersmith. Norem's winning time on Saturday was 9:48.29, ranking her fourth all-time at UNI.
The Panthers scored a pair of wins in the field events at the Jack Jennett Open, with Danielle Reicherts winning the long jump and Anna Loken scoring a victory in the pole vault. Reicherts also finished with a personal-best in the long jump at the Mark Messersmith Invite, going 18-3.00.
The throws crew continued its strong showing this weekend with Sarah Pate and Brad Walski winning the women's and men's weight throw on Saturday at the Mark Messersmith Invite. Walski won with a personal-best of 65-5.00 to rank himself fifth all-time in school history. Walski also won the men's shot put on Saturday with a mark of 56-2.00.
UNI returns to action on Feb. 3-4 when they split the weekend at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind. and at the Frank Sevigne Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
