Panthers Cap Off Weekend Play with Win Over Buffalo, 10-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Northern Iowa softball team capped off a 4-1 weekend at the Wooo Pig Classic with a 10-1 win over Buffalo on Sunday morning. The Panthers (15-6) homered four times in the contest, their most in a game this season.

Buffalo scored the first run of the game in the second inning, plating one run due to a lead-off triple to take an early lead. It marked the first time this weekend that the Panthers did not score a run first in a game.

The Panthers bounced back quickly in the following half inning to take a 5-1 lead as UNI rattled off five straight hits to begin the frame. Alyssa Buchanan's third home run of the year scored Kennedy Bailey, a shot to left field to help the Panthers gain the lead. Brittany Krodinger grabbed her first collegiate home run, scoring her sister Courtney Krodinger. Chelsea Ross tallied her 20^th RBI of the season later in the inning, who finished the weekend with a .526 batting average and six RBI.

Ross jump started another five run inning for the Panthers with a RBI single, this time in the fourth as UNI took a 10-1 lead. The Panthers smashed back-to-back home runs, beginning Caitlin Wnek's second home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field that scored Micalla Rettinger and Ross. Kristin Lock followed with a home run of her own in the following at-bat, another shot to left field for her third homer of the weekend.

UNI will travel to Lawrence, Kan. on Friday, March 11 and kick off weekend play against Nebraska-Omaha at 9 a.m.
