Carnes Earns Third Consecutive MVC Honor

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Junior Brandon Carnes has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week for the third week in a row, it was announced today by the league office.

Carnes is the first male UNI track athlete to earn three or more athlete of the week selections in an indoor season since before the 2005-06 season.

The Bradenton, Fla. native has kept his momentum going into each weekend this season, and that was no different at the Nebraska Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6. Carnes posted personal-best times in the 60 and 200 meter dashes in Lincoln.

Carnes ran the fastest time in the preliminary 60 meter dash race, breaking the UNI and MVC record with a time of 6.64. It bested his previous school and Valley record of 6.69 that he set in 2015. His time of 6.64 ranks him No. 9 in the country this year.

Carnes then went into the 200 meter dash, running a time of 21.30. It gave him another career-best and bumped him into second all-time at UNI.

Carnes and the Panthers will return to action this weekend when they split between the Tyson Invitational and the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 12-13.
