EUGENE, Ore. – Justin Baker and Brandon Carnes wrapped up an outstanding outdoor track and field season for the Panthers at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. today.
"Justin and Brandon finished their terrific seasons with national class performances," head coach Dan Steele said. "You can't put a price on these experiences."
Baker competed in the men's shot put final today, notching a mark of 61-0.00 to finish as an honorable mention All-American. The Sioux City, Iowa native ended his career on the UNI all-time list as second in the outdoor and indoor shot put, fourth in the weight throw and as the school record holder in the outdoor hammer throw.
Baker is a two-time All-MVC honoree, including his second place finish at the Outdoor MVC Championships in the shot put this season. He qualified for the NCAA Championships after his solid performance at the West Regional where he threw a key PR on his third attempt of 61-6.75 to place seventh overall and secure his spot at the championships.
Carnes competed in the 200 meter dash semifinals today, finishing in his heat with a time of 20.93. Carnes, one of the most decorated sprinters at UNI, wrapped up his sophomore campaign with hardware to take home.
He is currently ranked in the top-two all-time at UNI in the outdoor 100 and 200 meters and the indoor 200 meters, along with holding the school record in the 60 meter dash. He now holds eight MVC individual titles between the indoor and outdoor seasons as just a sophomore.
