The Basics: The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team will return to the McLeod Center for an in-state battle on Wednesday, taking on the Iowa State Cyclones at 7 p.m.
The Series: The Cyclones hold a 7-34 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1974. Six of UNI's win in the series have come in Cedar Falls, with the last UNI win coming in 2002.
About the Cyclones: Iowa State will enter the game 2-3 overall this season. They are coming off of two consecutive losses at the Cancun Challenge (vs. #15 Duke, L 86-48 | vs. Idaho, L 97-65), but opened the season with 95-59 win over Hampton. They return three starters to the court this season after earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament last year. They are led by Seanna Johnson, who averages 32.8 minutes, 11.0 rebounds and 16.4 points per game.

All-Tournament Team: Madison Weekly averaged 15.0 points, 32.5 minutes, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists at the Cancun Challenge, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Weekly scored 15 points in UNI's win over Georgia Tech (11/26), shooting 62 percent from the field and 75 percent from the arc, adding a career-high seven rebounds. Against undefeated Seton Hall (11/27), Weekly put up 15 points while shooting 83-percent from the free throw line. She also chipped in six rebounds, two assists and two steals to her stat line.
Scoring Defense: UNI held Seton Hall (11/27) to just 57 points at the Cancun Chalenge. The Pirates entered the tournament averaging 80. The Panthers are currently ranked first in the MVC in scoring defense, only allowing 55.4 points per game this year.
Points on the Line: UNI shot just 50 percent from the free throw line in the first half against Seton Hall (11/27), but went 12-for-16 (75%) in the second half. Madison Weekly scored a season-high five at the line, shooting 83-percent. She is currently tied for 10th in the Valley in free throw percentage (.750).
Off the Bench: UNI outscored Georgia Tech (11/26) in points off the bench, 20-7. Ellie Herzberg shined for the Panthers against the Yellow Jackets, scoring a season-high 15 points, shooting 80-percent from the field and 87-percent from the line. She leads the team in free throw shooting this season after her career-high seven made against Georgia Tech.
Safe Hands: Senior Sharnae Lamar has started the first five games for the Panthers at the point guard position, racking up 31.4 minutes per game, 24 assists and 11 steals while only turning the ball over 10 times. She is currently ranked second in the league in assist/turnover ratio and assists per game with 4.8.
From the Three: Amber Sorenson is No. 2 in the Missouri Valley Conference in three-pointers made this season (12). She led the league in the category last year, and currently has 145 in her career, ranking her seventh all-time at UNI.

For The Gold: After the 2014-15 season finished, Tanya Warren was awarded the unique opportunity to coach for her country after being named an assistant coach for Team USA at the World University Games in South Korea. During the month of July, Warren traveled overseas with Team USA for the tournament, eventually defeating Canada in the championship game for Gold.

Valley on ESPN3: ESPN and the Missouri Valley Conference have announced a 10-year extension to their current media rights agreement that will provide increased coverage of conference events across ESPN platforms through the 2023-24 academic year. As part of the deal, ESPN, the MVC and its 10 member institutions will work jointly to develop in-house production capabilities at each campus that will provide significant national coverage for multiple sports on ESPN3 and hands-on educational opportunities for students. As a result, ESPN3 will showcase a minimum of 820 events a year (a minimum of 70 men's basketball) in the final six years of the agreement.
