UNI's Hosch Destroys 800m School Record

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Northern Iowa senior Holli Hosch headlined several strong efforts by the UNI track and field teams Saturday afternoon at the Meyo Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Hosch won the 800m over some of the nation's top runners, destroying the 15-year-old UNI school record and finishing in 2:06.31 to break the previous mark by 2.69 seconds.

The previous indoor 800m school record of 2:09.00 had been held by Emily Montgomery since 1996.

Based on performances entering this weekend, Hosch posted the seventh-fastest time in the country this season. She now holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the 800m at UNI.

Hosch was 0.12 seconds shy of the all-time Missouri Valley Conference record of 2:06.19 set by Indiana State's Angie Bruecker in 2000.

The UNI women's 4x400m relay quartet of Ellen Kindelsperger, Hosch, Michaela Brungardt and Sam Cameron posted the second-fastest indoor 4x400 in UNI history, taking second place in 3:42.87.

Junior Aaron Stockstell was fifth in the 800m run, crossing the line in 1:51.75. Brady Fritz was tenth with a time of 1:52.67. Fritz and Stockstell now hold the top two 800m performances in the MVC this season.

Sophomore Thibault Vandenabeele made his season debut, taking 10^th place in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:32.24 – the fastest time by a UNI runner this season.

UNI will return to competition on Feb. 11-12 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
