Senior Missy Journot delivered a corner kick in the 62nd minute that junior Kiki McClellan headed in to the back of the net. Just 12 minutes later Journot came through with another corner kick that sophomore Allie Brees headed past the Sycamore goalkeeper for the score.
The Panther defense limited Indiana State to just five shots in the match while the UNI offense tallied 13 shots including seven on goal. The Panther offense held a major advantage in corner kicks recording 11, two of which produced goals, to just one for Indiana State.
Seven different Panthers recorded shots in the match. Kiki McClellan led the way with three shots, two of which were on goal with one finding the net. Allie Brees added two shots on goal for the Panthers scoring the second UNI goal.
Junior Melissa Hagan recorded three shots with two shots on goal and senior Megan Cameron recorded a shot on goal in the game. Freshman Caitlyn Fuller recorded two shots, sophomore Claire Clark and freshman Charlotte Jones also tallied a shot for UNI.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Zaideman posted the shut out turning away one Sycamore shot on the afternoon.
Missy Journot was credited with assists on both of the Panther's goals in the match but gave much of the credit to her teammates. "It's not just me assisting it, I think it's just the way we are attacking the ball now on set pieces. It is a complete team effort."
The confidence of the Panthers showed early and often as the Panthers spent the majority of the time with the ball in the Sycamore's half of the field. "This win gives us more confidence." Journot said. The Panthers will ride that confidence in to the rest of the Missouri Valley Conference slate hoping to make the program's third MVC postseason appearance in seven years.
The Panthers will be back in action on Oct. 15 when they host Missouri Valley Conference foe Evansville at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex.
