Panthers struggle to establish offense during in-state, non-conference loss.
AMES, Iowa --- The UNI soccer team fell to in-state rival Iowa State on Sunday by a score of 5-0 at Cyclone Sports Complex.Â
Iowa State dominated the tempo of the game offensively throughout the contest, outshooting Northern Iowa by a margin of 31-8, and putting 12 shots on goal to UNI's three.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa State broke the scoreless tie in the 20th minute as Sophie Forrester capitalized on a penalty kick to give the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead. The Cyclones doubled their lead on Northern Iowa in the 27th minute before finding the net in the 30th with Alaina Villa to extend the ISU lead to 2-0. Ava Hancock tallied another goal for ISU in the 38th minute to make it 3-0 Cyclones going into halftime. Ella Ubben would record the lone UNI shot on goal in the first half.
Poppy Anderson would start the second half in goal for UNI, but the Cyclones would continue their strong offensive play. In the 63rd minute, Megan Walters gave ISU a 4-0 lead on a long kick from the Cyclone defensive zone from keeper Sara Gavagan to midfield, where Walters secured possession and sprinted towards the Panther goal and an easy score. Izabella Tejeda would add another goal in the 81st minute, extending the Iowa State lead to 5-0.Â
Ubben would finish the match with a team-high four shot attempts, including two on goal, while Kylie Knief recorded two shot attempts with one on goal. Keira Bogott also notched one shot attempt, as Hailey Luedtke tallied three saves in the first half in goal. Anderson meanwhile notched two second half saves.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Iowa State leads the all-time series 14-1-1 after the loss by UNI on Sunday.
- Ella Ubben's four shot attempts against the Cyclones were a career-high.
