UNI soccer returns home for a non-conference finale against St. Thomas

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI soccer team will play its final non-conference match on Thursday, welcoming the St. Thomas Tommies to the UNI Soccer Field.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at the UNI Soccer Field with the contest free and open to the public.

Spectators can park in the west UNI-Dome lot as well as the gravel lot located next to the Doug and Anne Goschke Outdoor Practice Facility. Parking behind the team benches will be reserved for staff and game officials only.

UNI returns to action after a 2-1 loss on Sunday to Western Illinois in Macomb. Ella McGinnis tallied her first career goal in the contest during the 89th minute of play. Shaelee Franck orchestrated UNI's attack on offense, leading the Panthers with three shot attempts, followed by two shots from Ella Ubben. Hailey Luedtke, the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) leader in saves per game (6.8) and total saves (34), registered eight saves for the Panthers in her fifth career start in net, the second-most saves in a match in her young career.

Thursday will mark the sixth meeting between Northern Iowa and St. Thomas with the all-time series tied at 2-2-1. The last matchup between the two programs took place in 2025, where the Tommies defeated the Panthers 1-0 in St. Paul, Minnesota. The previous matchup at UNI Soccer Field went in favor of Northern Iowa, a 3-2 victory during the 2024 season.

SCOUTING ST. THOMAS
St. Thomas is coming off a 2-1 loss against Butler on Saturday, and like the Panthers, are in search for their first victory of the season.

Led by interim head coach Becca Brandt, Melina Knowles and Emily McCarthy return for the Tommies after scoring three goals each during the previous campaign.

Junior midfielder Izzy McEwan is off to a strong start, scoring all three St. Thomas goals in the young 2026 season. Goalkeepers Sophia Alvarez and Ayden Gagner have started three games each for the Tommies, and have combined for 28 saves on the year.
