CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI soccer team will play its finale non-conference road competition on Sunday afternoon as it heads to Macomb to take on the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at John MacKenzie Alumni Field with live coverage of the game on ESPN+.
Northern Iowa returns to action after a full week away from the competition field, set to play seven days after falling to in-state rival Iowa State last Sunday in Ames, 5-0.
Ella Ubben led the attack for UNI's offense against the Cyclones with four shot attempts, two of which were on goal. Kylie Knief also recorded two shot attempts in the contest with one on target. In goal Hailey Luedtke notched three saves at goal in the first half, while Poppy Anderson came in relief for the second and tallied two saves.Â
Sunday will mark the 23rd all-time meeting between Northern Iowa and Western Illinois on the pitch, with the Leathernecks leading the all-time series 9-8-5. UNI won its previous matchup against WIU by a margin of 4-0 a year ago in Cedar Falls. The Panthers tied the Leathernecks in their last trip to Macomb in a scoreless draw.
SCOUTING WESTERN ILLINOIS
The Leathernecks, also in search of their first win of the 2026 season, are coming off a 5-0 loss on Wednesday to Drake. WIU has scored only one goal on the year, scored by Rita Moran in a 3-1 loss at home to Eastern Washington on Aug. 23.
Second year head coach Ross Henderson returns his two leading scorers from the 2025 season, including Abigail Schilling who recorded seven points and three goals in the Leathernecks previous campaign. Junior forward Claire Brown also returns for Western Illinois after notching five points and two goals in 2025.Â
