Panthers Open 2010 Indoor Track Season

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa men's and women's track teams got the 2010 indoor season underway Saturday hosting the Panther Open.
“The first time out of the box is always fun,” head coach Dan Steele said. “These kids clearly love to compete. I continue to be impressed with the intensity these Panther athletes show. Both the men and the women have given reason to be excited about this indoor season.”
Sophomore Ehi Oamen took third place, clearing 6-11 ½.
UNI took the top four places in the 1000 meter run with Mike Craddick and Andrew Nelson.
Stephen Dak and Ryan Krogmann led the way in the men's mile run with Dak taking first place in a time of 4:18.79 followed by Krogmann in 4:22.03.
Channing Puls was the top finisher for the Purple and Gold in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in a time of 8.62 for third place. Scott Lynn finished in fifth place with a time of 8.74.
Josh Madsen took home first place in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 49.66. Corey Albrecht finished in third place with a time of 51.91.
Giorgio Giurdanella finished in second place in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 22.84.
Gory Goos and Jordan Cornilsen took third and fourth in the 600 meter run clocking in at 1:20.67 and 1:21.66 respectively.
Jordan Williams took runner-up honors in the weight throw, tossing 54-00 followed by Tanner Hurt in third with a heave of 52-09 ½. Allen Weeks and Justin Romero finished in fifth and sixth place respectively.
UNI recorded the top three finishes in the shot put with Williams taking first place, heaving 50-02 ¾ followed by Romero (49-11) and Weeks (49-09 ¾).
In the long jump, the Panthers took three of the top four spots with Ehi Oamen finished in the runner-up slot with a leap of 22-07 ¾. Rozle Bucalo took fourth place with a leap of 22-03 ¾.
Women
The Panthers took the top four places in the 1000 meter run with Holli Hosch leading the way with a time of 3:01.90. Holly Tjaden took second place followed by Carly Olsen and Lindsey Wilkins.
UNI also dominated the top four places in the 600 meter run with freshman Sam Cameron taking the top spot in a time of 1:35.95 followed by Michaela Brungardt, Ellen Kindelsperger and Molly Cashman.
Regina Reinig claimed the top three places in the 800 meter run with Shaddox clocking in at 2:21.37 followed by Blanchard in 2:24.73 and Reinig in 2:27.74.
Scotti Schon made her collegiate debut on the track, taking fourth place in the mile run with a time of 5:28.20.
Also making their collegiate debuts, Claire Johannesen, Emily McCarthy and Kayla Herbers took third through fifth place in the 400 meter dash. Kayla Selby finished sixth followed by Ali Selenke.
Courtney Landers took the top spot in the women's weight throw with a heave of 53-07 ¾ followed by Traci Harms in second (51-06 ¼).
Rachel VanderHolt finished in third in the high jump, clearing 5-03 ¾. Johanna Smith tied for fourth place, clearing 5-01 ¼.
Jamie Wieck finished in fourth place in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 8.04.
The Purple and Gold took third through fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles with Heather Kessler leading the way finishing in third followed by Lindsay Gierke and Lauren Lindaman.
Gierke was the Panthers top finisher in the 200 meter dash, taking third place in a time of 26.64.
In the 3,000 meter run the Panthers had three runners place in the top five with Jill Lageschulte taking third followed by Allison Fick and Danielle Nowasell.
In the pole vault, Jenna Wexter vaulted a career-best 12-00 to take the top spot.
The Panthers return to action next weekend, taking part in the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.
