
Swimmers Start Strong, Fall to Coyotes

Vermillion, SD - The University of Northern Iowa women's swimming & diving team opened up its season this afternoon against the South Dakota Coyotes, falling by a score of 160-128.
The Panthers won six of 16 events with freshman Katie Maloy leading the way with two individual wins. Her first came in the 800m freestyle, going 16-lengths of the pool in 9:50.26, seven seconds ahead of second place. She also won the 400m freestyle in 4:46.43, a little more than two seconds ahead.
Another freshman, Katie Klickenborg came out on fire in the 200m butterfly, her first two splits in 33.59 and 38.07, respectively, to win the race nine seconds ahead with a final time of 2:31.76.
The Panthers also claimed the top three finishes in the 200m freestyle, Rachael Rodnett placed first, Ashley Hunter placed second, and Lauren Stork third.
Last season the Panthers were defeated 136-90 by the Coyotes.
The Panthers continue their road trip Saturday when they face off against Nebraska at 2 p.m.
